Prof.Dr.M.Selvaraj, M.Sc., Ph.D.,
Tamil Nadu State Information Commissioner.
Dr. M. Selvaraj, a straight forward gentleman with a cheerful countenance, hailing from a hamlet Venmaniyathur in Villupuram District with an indefatigable industry has risen to greater heights.
He was elevated as the Tenth Principal of Guru Nanak College based on merit and credentials serving nearly three decades in the Department of Chemistry. He was instrumental in upgrading the Department of Chemistry with research level. He successfully completed a Major Research Project Funded by UGC. He has given his best in every portfolio inside and outside the campus. He also served as IQAC Coordinator, Vice President Student’s Council, Deputy Warden, Member of Environment Club and Admission Committee, etc., Added to the above he also served as the Member of Convenor Committee to exercise the powers and duties of Vice-Chancellor of the University of Madras.
Under his stewardship the college had made tremendous progress in academic, administration and infrastructure matters. During his tenure as principal, Guru Nanak College attained Autonomous Status, Star College Status, ‘A’ Grade by NAAC reaccreditation and NIRF Ranked between 100 to 150.
As the principal of Guru Nanak College, he has got elected to the Syndicate of the University of Madras, continuously for two terms during which he had been part of many sub-committees at the University of Madras. He has contributed a great deal in solving many critical issues in the University. By virtue of his vast teaching, research and administrative experiences, he was a member in the academic council and Senate of the University. The University has got richly benefited with his advice and guidance.
He has volunteered with the team of NSS Voluteers and collected donations for the people affected by natural disasters like Gujarat Earthquake along with volunteer handed over a sum of Rs. 1.5 lakhs to the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nādu Thiru M.Karunanidhi .
Apart from the service for academics, students, and institutions, he volunteered to support during the flood relief camp in Dec 2015. During that time, he joined hands with the Management’s of the college and distributed 2 lakh worth of food pockets to the people affected in the flood in and around Velachery. Similarly, during the Covid wave, he joined the team and took care of thousands of migrant workers residing at Covid – 19 Relief Camp. His philanthropic initiative to uplift the downtrodden students continuously and consistently was admired and respected by all stack holders.
In recognition of his Academic and Administrative experience, he has been nominated as a Member of Senate Madurai Kamaraj University by His Excellency, Governor of Tamil Nadu.
He served as a Member of UGC – visiting committee for conferment of Fresh Autonomous Status, Member NAAC peer team to assess the colleges for grading. He served as the University Representative – Governing body of Madras Christian College and Pachaiyappa’s College, etc.,
He received the “Lifetime Educator Award” for the contribution in Educating & motivating the economically backward student community by “Pare Foundation”.
